Your life: The sum total of all those little things…
It’s Sport Relief this weekend and, if you’re anything like me, where the very thought of doing a marathon fills you with both horror and panic in equal measure, then fear not…….with the teeniest of effort and the smallest of actions, you can change your physical wellbeing for the better…..not to mention doing your bit to raise loads of dosh, all for a good cause!
The UK government recommends that we get involved in at least 30 minutes of moderately intense activity, five or more days in the week. Don’t panic, I’m not asking you to go to the gym! Simply have a go at the following this weekend and see how the changes make you feel in a matter of days!
Walking up and down stairs a dozen or so times, as you would on that dreaded treadmill
Walking up moving escalators, really stretching and lunging those hamstrings as you go
Parking some distance away from you’re going, as you would if using public transport
Doing the housework much quicker and in a much firmer manner, racing round the cleaning, F1 style
Getting stuck in with the digging and weeding in the garden, clearing out all that dead winter foliage
Activating your abs by continually pulling in your navel, simultaneously strengthening the lower back
Kicking your heels up to your bum (hard 30 seconds/rest 10 seconds) for a 2-minute cardio session
Teaming up with a buddy to go running, walking, golfing, cycling, surfing, skating, dancing, whatever
Emotional fitness is tied up with physical fitness – the two are inextricably linked – feeling good comes from doing good, and then doing good makes us feel even better – the cycle (forgive the pun!) never ends.
So, how about it, everybody? Time to get off our bums, up on our feet and to get those dosh-earning limbs moving!! Let’s give it some real welly for Sport Relief, 2016!!!
